Behavioral Health Specialist

Abt Associates

This is a Full-time position in Nashville, TN posted September 11, 2021.

Abt Associates seeks an Associate with behavioral health and public health research and evaluation and technical assistance experience.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the design and implementation of programs and studies focused on behavioral health and public health.

This Associate-level position would design, lead, and coordinate complex scientific/technical components of projects related to mental health and/or substance use with responsibility for the application of advanced methods and techniques (i.e., quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods research), training and technical assistance, technical writing, budget oversight, project management, client relations and staff supervision.

The successful candidate would lead and monitor large-scale project activities, deliverables, and progress towards anticipated results.

Associates are expected to make significant contributions to sales and proposal efforts in accordance with the behavioral health areas business development plan by either obtaining repeat or new business from current clients or acquiring new clients.

Associates maintain excellent relationships with federal agency clients and Abt partners and consultants and should be regarded within target agencies and organizations as a subject matter expert.

The candidate will have demonstrated capability of presenting and speaking at professional meetings, and supporting development and publication of research findings.

The candidate will enjoy working in a team environment, participating in and leading major projects, directing proposal efforts, and managing relationships with state and federal study sponsors.

Key Roles and Responsibilities Lead and coordinate complex components of quantitative and/or qualitative research and/or technical assistance projects focused on behavioral health Serve as Project Manager, Technical Lead, and/or Project Director for medium to large behavioral health or public health research and evaluation projects.

Exercise initiative and lead the preparation and review of project reports and findings.

Establish/maintain an industry presence as a behavioral health subject-matter expert by publishing in peer-reviewed journals and/or by presenting at annual conferences and meetings.

Review work and provide technical guidance to project teams.

Serve as a technical resource for applying advanced research and evaluation techniques, concepts, and methods.

Actively participate in the development of less senior staff.

Assume responsibility for meeting annual business development goals.

Participate with other senior staff in business development activities to secure additional work from existing clients and/or to identify new opportunities across federal agencies such as Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA), Centers for Disease Control, National Institute of Justice, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and Department of Defense (DoD) Preferred Skills Experience in a managing projects including evaluation programs preferably across federal accounts.

Extensive experience in project and program development and client relationship management and proven track record of project leadership.

Proven expertise in mental health and/or substance use research and/evaluation, technical assistance, business development, client relationship management, and supervision/staff development.

Applied expertise in behavioral health, including for example clinical expertise and licensure, healthcare and systems administration, community mental health experience.

Lived experience with behavioral health conditions desirable.

Minimum Qualifications MA/MPH/MBA with 7 years of experience OR PhD with 4 years of experience OR the equivalent combination of education and experience.
